Le Club Richelieu de Biddeford was an international service club of French expression, similar to Rotary or Kiwanis. Le Club Richelieu was founded in Ottawa, Canada in 1944 for the purpose of maintaining the values of the French-Canadian culture. Le Club Richelieu de Biddeford was open to men and women who speak French, and met on a monthly basis at the Wonderbar Restaurant. The meetings included dinner, music and a guest speaker. The last record of an active Richelieu Club in Biddeford was about 2010. Since that time the New England clubs split from the international organization, and formed their own U.S. Richelieu; there are still clubs active in Rhode Island and New Hampshire, but the Biddeford club isn’t officially present any longer.
