Détails spécifiques des matériaux: This collection consists of a manuscript written by Carleen Violette. In it, she describes butchering a pig with Fred J. Morneault, including detailed description of the process and the food products that will result from the butchering, such as blood sausage and creton. She retells a story from Lewellyn Despres about a monster who lives in Eagle Lake, as seen by his sisters Rolande and Dorothy (Dorothy is Carleen's mother). The manuscript also includes an interview with Modest Deprey discussing bloodstopping, "leutons," and the "seven secrets." This manuscript was submitted for a course with Professor Roger Paradis at the University of Maine at Fort Kent in Spring 1974.
Remarques: Fred J. Morneault was born in St. Euzibe, New Brunswick, Canada, on June 1, 1907, the son of Antoine and Ginoffe Saucier Morneault. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a warrant officer on March 13, 1941 and reenlisted April 6, 1942. He married Maria Gagnon of Eagle Lake on December 26, 1942. Morneault died November 28, 1988 in Fort Kent, Maine. Modeste Daigle Deprey was born in St. Agatha, Maine on January 15, 1894, the daughter of Octave and Olivia Nadeau Daigle. For many years, she owned Deprey's Lobster House in Eagle Lake with her husband Michael Deprey, who she married on July 12, 1915. Deprey died on August 23, 1980. Lewellyn Despres was the son of Modeste Daigle Deprey. He was born July 11, 1934. He served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist Fourth Class. Despres died on September 1, 2001. Note: "Deprey" also appears as "Duprey" and "Despres." Carleen Violette is the granddaughter of Modeste Deprey (1894-1980) of St. Agatha and the niece of Llewellyn Despres. She married Armand Dube on December 10, 1978.
