Le manuscrit du livre Lowell E. Daigle examine la culture et la société franco-américaines de la haute vallée du Saint-Jean, dans le Maine, en se concentrant sur les données recueillies entre la fin des années 1960 et le début des années 1990 dans un petit hameau pseudonyme appelé « Alouette ». Organisé en six chapitres, le manuscrit se concentre sur la famille, l'église et les changements récents dans la communauté d'étude. Le manuscrit comprend également un contexte historique sur les Acadiens avant leur arrivée dans le nord du Maine.

Biographical Note: Lowell E. Daigle (b. 6-30-1940, d. 8-10-1996) did undergraduate work at Wellesley College and at Boston University, where she received a B.A. in Dociology and Anthropology in 1964. She completed her M.A. in Social Anthropology at Harvard University in 1966. Professor Daigle first came to the St. John Valley in the mid-1960s as a Ph.D. student researching the residential community of Daigle, Maine. In 1969, she began a teaching career at the University of Maine at Fort Kent where, from 1990 to 1996 she served as Associate Professor of Anthropology and Sociology.
